We are a group of residents and representatives from community agencies in the Grandview Woodland neighbourhood of Vancouver, British Columbia. Since 2003 we have undertaken a variety of projects in our community with community members. We focus on finding inclusive and creative supports for people with addictions and people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless.

Watari’s primary mission is to facilitate positive change in the lives of at-risk children, youth, their families and communities in the Downtown Eastside and the Greater Vancouver/Richmond areas.

My girlfriend and I were at your program at the Longshoreman’s Hall last Saturday and we thought it was excellent, and I wanted to thank you guys. The clothing part was great, as we’ve just recently secured an SRO after being homeless for the last 8 months and all our clothes had been lost and we were able to completely replenish our wardrobes as the volunteers said we could take as much as we needed. The donated clothes were wonderful, very up to date and stylish –some brand new— and I even managed to pick up a complete double-breasted suit that fit well that I can use for job interviews.
The access to information and services was also fantastic. I only heard about it through a poster at the bottle depot. Where and when will your next event like that be held? I will be sure to attend and tell others about it.
