1st Donation of 2014
Long time partners, Rose Charities Canada, http://rosecharities.org/ got the ball rolling with our first donation of 2014 giving $1,200 towards our upcoming event. We are extremely appreciative and thankful for their support all these years. Thanks to partners like this we will be able to provide a warm and welcome space for the day with food for 500 and the opportunity to connect with almost 40 local social service providers.
If you are thinking of giving a donation this year remember that for every donation over $20 we can provide a charitable donation tax receipt through our administrative and community partner Watari http://www.watari.ca/ . Safe secure donations can be made online through their website or cheques can be sent directly to their office. If you need more information please feel free to get in touch at email@example.com .
Stay tuned to this page for more information about our upcoming event and please take care of each other in the community.
Wishing the community a safe and happy holiday season and another great year ahead. In the neighbourhood, the Maritime Labour Centre will be hosting their annual free Christmas Eve dinner tonight at 6 p.m. and the Kettle will be serving Christmas lunch at 11:30 on Christmas Day. Many thanks to these and all our community partners in Grandview Woodland.
Our Community Partner- Peer 2 Peer
P2P is a group of past and present illicit drug users. The peers meet weekly for dinner, a mini-workshop or to hear a guest speaker as well as to get and give support from one another. The peers also have opportunities to participate in educational training and community meetings. Honouraria is provided for participation.
The peers are dedicated to harm reduction. They do sweeps and outreach six days per week. They are committed to the safe needle retrieval of discarded needles as well as providing peer support and referrals to those who need it in the Grandview Woodland area.

Under One Umbrella Society- Vision and Mission
At the recent strategic planning session members of the Under One Umbrella Society spent time updating our Vision and Mission to better reflect our current work. This was a valuable exercise and the update was long overdue. Developing the new statements truly was a team effort and came from thoughtful discussion and contribution from everyone present at the meeting.
Our Vision- A proactive community working to eliminate homelessness and poverty in open, honest, inclusive and creative ways.
Our Mission- To engage the Grandview Woodland community and other partners in seeking solutions to homelessness and poverty through dialogue and action.
We hope you share in how we would like to see our community in the future and encourage you to come to our meetings and get involved to make it happen.
